HISTORY OF SALINE VOLTERRA
The salt mines of Volterra had been cultivated since the time of ancient Etruscans, and have always been an important resource for the area, so that the Grand Duke Leopold, son of Marie Antoinette, in the 18 th century, increased the production by building new factories, decreeing the birth of a new town called Saline di Volterra. The salt then passed under state control, and in the 90s it was privatized. Today the plant produces about 150,000 tons/year of recrystallized, intended for the production of tablets and the agri - food industry and, with the minimum purity of 99.99 %, is without any doubt:
THE PUREST SALT IN ITALY
